Fabulous Zoomer Fins for snorkelers on your list

These fins rock, so light, easy to pack and fit like a glove. Best fins I ever had, you and anyone on your Christmas gift list will dive for them.

FINIS, a world leader in technical swimming products that maximize your fitness potential and technique, announces the immediate availability of Zoomers® Fit Swim Fins, swim fins that encourage easy propulsion and active legs while you swim.
Comfortable and lightweight, these fitness fins use a Surflex material that floats the legs for an ideal body position. The fitness-oriented fins use patented Zoomers® technology to generate easy propulsion in the water so that you can increase leg strength while making swimming easier.
Available in multiple sizes for a custom fit, these encouraging swim fins are available now for $27.99 at www.FINISinc.com/zoomers-fit/.
“As a fitness swimmer it’s very important to have the correct body position during your workout to prevent muscle injury and to maximize your workout potential,” says John Mix, President of FINIS. “Our new Zoomers® Fit fins are the softest of our fins and provide a swimmer with a tool that will improve their overall swim technique and results.”
The Zoomer® Fit feature a closed-heel design which creates a soft and secure fit, and a short blade construction that promotes a shorter and faster kick specific to swimming. By being buoyant, the Zoomers® Fit encourages an elevated body position to keep the legs active during your swim. The Flex Box on the underside of the fins will catch water during the up-kick, targeting and strengthening the hamstrings and glutes.

Morongo the Second Time Around– and, it was all good

Cinco de Mayo the gave us sombreros

And it was all good…. Especially celebrating Cinco de Mayo, got sombreros, too…. My husband, Richard surprised me with a birthday visit to Morongo Resort & Casino in March. We enjoyed our two-night fling so much we recently returned this Desert Oasis for Cinco de Mayo. This time we booked a very attractively appointed two-room suite on the 23rd floor with flatscreen TVs, huge bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and shower, two sinks, big closets, mini bar (which the Travel Diva never touches), robes, slippers, lush toiletries and great views of the magical mountains that at different times of the day change colors from purples to blues, grays and amber. Suites are definitely the way to go.  You also get private access by your room key in the elevator.

Las time we went into Palm Springs for dinner, this time we dined at the hotel’s Cielo–a penthouse restaurant offering awesome views of the surrounding mountains and softy lit by gorgeous chandeliers that change colors almost on cue with your mood. Our yummy meal began with ahi tuna presented beautifully and tasty and moved along to an exceptional Chilean seabass with a lobster salad, and Porterhouse steak cooked just right, bottle of so-so wine (the prices were a bit high for our budget so opted for a $38 bottle, about the cheapest on the list that was just okay). We skipped dessert because we gave at the earlier Potrero Canyon Buffet buffet (a really fantastic deal folks, lots of fine food from breakfast choices to Asian and pizza and awesome desserts). The all-you-can eat affair is less than $15 a person and really good quality. In fact Morongo’s breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet is among the best for any hotel casino we’ve ever visited. And this from a dining diva, too.

IMG_0388The weather was warm and wonderful and we spent a lot of time at the Oasis Pool–an inviting area with tiny sandy “beaches”, private cabanas and lots of comfy chaises. IMG_0393

We also booked massages which came with an extra bonus “express mani or pedi”, I took the mani, he opted for the pedi. My rub was deep and thorough, but Richard didn’t fare as well, his therapist was a little too light handed for his tastes, but he said it was still relaxing. The little spa is quite satisfying with steambaths, saunas, whirlpools, cold plunge, lockers and assorted beverages to sip on. We were there for “Mimosa Monday” and enjoyed the cool drink after our steams.

Morongo offers assorted specials on just about everything from 30 percent off spa purchases, 20% off sservices, 1/2 price wines in Cielo on Tuesday and Thursdays (our waitress forgot to remind us and we goofed or we would have order a better bottle), and discounts depending on the day of the week, obviously Monday through Thursday getting the better rate, higher fees on weekends.

You can’t beat this hotel for charm, service, cleanliness (even the public loos are spotless), buffets and pay outs at the slots–if you keep it you can win, alas most of us toss it back in. They also have a rewards club, “Winner’s Circle” which gives gamblers cash back for play.

The Diva Gets a Good Hair Day

Wow, my hair never look better after my session at  the new Loft Hair Lounge & Green Spa in Beverly Hillsimg_00642lofthowever that’s not me below but I will be posting a photo of my new, spiffy do…that’s Clay, the owner of the Loft and colorist extraordinaire doing someone’s hair, the other is a photo that truly reps the salon. Here’s one of  Liz doing someone else, wish I’d brought that camera….img_00671

Pun intended, it was a lofty experience. My hair needed help.  When I heard they only use organic products and were dedicated to fostering “green”, I knew I had to go there. And I was right. I loved the place from the minute I stepped into the highly stylized salon. The staff was welcoming and so were the little nooks and crannies where you can wait for your appointment while sipping some mighty fine coffee I might add. Bless their hearts they brew a good, strong, tasty cup of Joe.
Anyhow Clay and his assistant Liz took me under their wings and did a fab make-over in a couple of hours, all naturally of course.  I left my hair in Clay’s hands to do with what he wanted. He selected a deep brown with nifty lighter highlight using non-amonia,  yogurt based hair coloring and  Balyard paint on color. No tin foil, no long stretches under the hair dryer, all comfy, cozy with me catching up on magazines and sipping that rich coffee. A little buzzed, I might add. Anyhow Liz did the shampooing with all natural “Go 365” that left my hair silky and shiny. She also added an awesome scalp massage that left me swooning. Then she blew out my hair in a new style. I didn’t think my hair could look like that, straight and smart, and my husband remarked, “sexy and great.” Wish I’d taken my camera so I could show you, because I will never be able to replicate it on my own. Twenty-four year old Liz did it effortlessly and but painstakingly straightening out every strand. She was my new best friend. Actually, like her boss, Liz is a pure delight. No attitude, no edginess about this place which looks like it belongs in a fashionable section of New York and with a little lower prices.  Color ranges from $80 to $130, highlights  are $150 to$20O. Cuts range from $85 to $115 for women and $45 to $75 for men.
The full-service salon also offers body massages, face and scalp rubs, waxing, hand and feet treatments, lash and brow extensions, tints, etc., facials and lots of bliss.
Clay and his life partner are proud parents of a baby and planning on another, he credits the birth of their son with his ecological enlightenment. “We want to live a good legacy,” he beamed while showing me the photo of his handsome mate and son.
The Loft Hair Lounge & Green Spa also features Eminence handmade organic skin care products of Hungary, really wonderful, natural scented cosmetics available for purchase there. www.eminenceorganics.com.
